Packaging TipsHow to Choose the Right Packaging Solutions for Your Business

The right packaging keeps food at the right temperature, survives the trip to the customer and reflects your brand — at a cost per order that makes sense. Choosing it is easier when you work through a few questions in order.

1. What are you packing?

Group your menu by food type. Hot and saucy entrées need leak-resistant, heat-tolerant containers such as black-base containers or aluminum pans. Fried foods travel best in vented or paper options like boat trays that don't trap steam. Soups and sides fit deli containers. Sauces and dressings go in portion cups with lids. Cold drinks need clear PET cups with the right lid.

2. How long is the trip?

A five-minute counter pickup and a 40-minute delivery are different problems. Longer trips need tighter-sealing lids, insulation from steam and sturdier materials. If delivery is a large part of your business, test your packaging over your real delivery time before switching.

3. Does it need reheating?

If customers will reheat leftovers, choose microwave-safe polypropylene containers or oven-safe aluminum, and label accordingly. Clear PET is for cold items only.

4. What sizes do you really need?

Too many sizes create stocking headaches; too few force you to over-pack. Most operations need three to four container sizes and two cup sizes. Standardizing on sizes that share lids — for example, cups that all take a 98 mm lid — reduces the number of SKUs you stock.

5. What does it say about your brand?

Kraft and bagasse signal natural and eco-conscious; black and clear look clean and premium. Choose a consistent look across bags, containers and napkins.

6. What does it cost per order?

Add up the container, lid, cup, bag, napkins and cutlery used for a typical order. Small savings per piece multiply quickly, but a cheaper container that leaks costs far more in refunds and reviews.

Putting it together

Write down each menu item with its container, lid and size, then order that list by the case so staff always have the right pieces. AR Unlimited Supply can quote your whole packaging list at once and publishes case packs and pallet counts for every product. Start with the 2026 catalog or send us your list.
